Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among American men1 and, despite progress, patients still face significant unmet needs. Genetic mutations like in the BRCA gene can lead to more aggressive prostate cancer that may not respond as well to traditional treatment. While the link between the presence of genetic mutations, like in the BRCA gene, and the risk of breast cancer is widely understood, there is a strong need for increased awareness and education regarding a BRCA mutation’s impact on prostate cancer risk. Empowering patients to understand the connection between a BRCA mutation and the risk of prostate cancer, as well as their own BRCA status, is vital to making informed decisions about their health care and potential treatment options should they get diagnosed. Currently, less than half of men with metastatic prostate cancer are tested for BRCA mutations2.
