Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma
In June of 2023 just a little over 2 weeks before my 41st birthday I was diagnosed with stage 1 hormone pos, HER neg invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. I was devastated, frustrated and scared. As a mother with a type one diabetic with an intellectual disability my first concern was I need more time with my daughter. I needed to prepare her to be able to live without me. Prior to my diagnosis I worked out 3 times a week. I didn’t smoke and I only drank socially. In august I had a lumpectomy followed by a re excision in September due to close margins. My onco score came back under 20. I was told chemo would only give me a 1.6 benefit to prevent recurrence. That benefit did not outweigh the risks. I completed 21 days of radiation on 11/20/23. It has been a ride but I am beyond happy to be here to tell my story!
