San Francisco Fire Department did a study concerning cancer in the fire service. The study revealed that female firefighters had a 6x higher incidence of breast cancer than their female, pre-menopausal counterparts. This painting is a tribute to female firefighters to bring awareness to their risk. These are all women I have worked with over my 40 year career. The center woman, Canda, is a breast cancer survivor. (The other women have not been affected by breast cancer-yet).
