Nicole Biberstine
Survivor
On Oct 2017 after cleaning up my son’s first birthday party, my husband and I put the kids to bed and settled in to our typical end-of-the-weekend ritual: watching Sunday Night Football. It was October and there it was—ALL the pink. I decided to do a breast self-exam that later saved my life. In the past I had distributed pink ribbons with my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha at those games so that night I did an exam and found a lump. I was 39 with no family history and low risk. My cancer had already spread to my lymph nodes, so if I would have waited until I was 40 to do a mammogram, things would have been worse.
Also, my oncologist is Dr Bryan Schneider at IU Simon Cancer Center. He is a Komen grant recipient and researcher.
